INTENTION (NIYYAH)

After reciting adhan and Iqama, while standing still facing the qiblah, we maka the intention and determin which prayer to perform for God (e. g. fajr, zuhr, maghrib or other prayers).

For example, you say:

‘I am performing four rakʿahs of the ẓuhr prayer

qurbatan ilal lāh [to attain proximity to Allah]’.

And there’s no need to say it lingually, it’s enough to consider in your mind that

‘I am performing four rakʿahs of the ẓuhr prayer

qurbatan ilal lāh [to attain proximity to Allah]’.
